Victoria Police are urging road users to stay safe over the weekend as a horror week on the State's roads draws to a close.

Seven people have died on our roads this week, including two in separate fatal crashes in the Wimmera on Thursday.

A woman was killed and two men injured following a head-on collision on the Wimmera Highway at Marnoo East shortly after 1.30pm Thursday afternoon.

Just over an hour later, two cars collided at the intersection of Horsham Lubeck Road and Murtoa Glenorchy Road, near Lubeck, causing one of the vehicles to burst into flames, leaving another person dead.

Road Policing Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said it had been a heartbreaking and concerning week on the roads.

"Twelve people who, this time last week, were making normal plans will no longer be spending time with their families," AC Fryer said.

"These people were pedestrians, drivers, passengers and a motorcyclist.

"But more importantly they were fathers, mothers, brother, sisters and friends.

"These deaths happened as far north as Wooragee, right across to Marnoo East in western Victoria.

"They've happened in our outer suburbs, inner suburbs and across our regional areas.

"The regional deaths are of particular concern because despite making up a smaller percentage of our population, nearly half of the deaths on our roads this year have been in country areas."

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting rain on both Saturday and Sunday across the Wimmera.

"It's going to be a wet weekend, so I implore all Victorians - no matter how you're using our roads this weekend, look out for each other, travel to the conditions and stay safe," AC Fryer said.
