Work has begun on the first stage of a three stage project to rejuvenate the Avenue of Honour along Anzac Drive around the front oval at the Dimboola Memorial Secondary College.

This first phase involves the removal of the older trees from the inside of the Drive which will then be replaced with trees of the same species as the newer ones planted adjacent to the Matron Paschke memorial over the last five years.

Preliminary work began over the weekend, with most of the trees being removed this morning and the work being undertaken by the Drought Relief Project crew managed by the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority.

Above - Work was well underway this morning (Tuesday) with most of the appropriate trees having been removed and the site in the process of being cleaned up.

As these trees were planted around 60 years ago they are reaching the end of their life and the Dimboola RSL Sub Branch has approved their removal and replacement in order to maintain this significant memorial to the district's fallen soldiers.

Further stages to this project will see the trees along the south side of Anzac Drive removed and replaced at a later time.
