Dimboola and District Tennis Association made its return to the courts on Saturday with fine conditions greeting all players back on the court.

The opening round saw many sides fall short of the full complement of players with only one match being played with full sides of six men and six ladies.

However, the action was on with reigning premier Warrack Gold posting a first up win with a four points to one win over Arkona on the courts at Anzac Park.

Playing four men and four ladies, Gold started well winning the first two mixed doubles sets before Arkona claimed the next two sets but fell short by one game of claiming the section, 22-21.

A close affair took place in the Men's section with Arkona claiming its point for the day when it won the section 29 games to 25 with both sides winning two sets.

The Ladies section saw Gold dominate the day, winning all four sets to claim the points 36 games to seven.

Wendy Hewitt, Lynley Clyne and Rob Lehmann were in good form throughout the day winning their three sets, while recruits Lauren Lehmann and Chris Kellett started well winning two sets each for the day.

Dimboola has started its season in winning form when it claimed the closest result of the day, winning four points to one.

Playing five men and four women, Dimboola won the day nine sets to six, 111 games to 88.

A win in the mixed doubles set up its victory, claiming four of the five sets played and leading by 11 games before continuing its winning ways in the Men's section claiming the point 52 games to 25.

Jeparit ladies led the way for the day, winning all four sets on offer to claim the point 36 games to 21. Sue Bell was the only three set winner for the day.

At Brim, the home side started its season with a win when it defeated Rainbow four points to one.

Playing five ladies and four men, Brim dominated the mixed doubles, winning four of the five sets and led 44 games to 17 before continuing its strong form in the men to claim three of the four sets played.

Rainbow claimed its point for the day in the Ladies' section when it won a thriller in the final set of the section.

With five sets being played, Rainbow won the first three sets of the section which ensured the point before Brim won the final two sets and finish one game ahead, 35 to 34.

Jack Quick and Patrick Lindsay won their three sets for the day.

Warrack Maroon travelled to the Health & Fitness Centre courts in Dimboola where it met a strong Antwerp team that claimed the day four points to one.

Playing four Men's and six ladies, Antwerp started well in the mixed section, opening up a 37 games to 23 lead winning four of the five sets on offer before dominating the Men's section winning all four sets and only giving up six games, winning 36 games to six.

Warrack Maroon hit back in the Ladies' section as both sides won three sets each as Maroon claimed the point 49 games to 39.

The final match of the round saw last season's runner-up Hopetoun dominate a clash with Yaapeet to claim all five points for the day, winning 157 games to 52.

In the only match played with six and six, Hopetoun dominated all sections, winning the mixed 52 games to 19, the mens 51 games to 18 and the ladies section 54 games to 15.
