The redevelopment of Jeparit's Menzies Square will be officially opened at an event next month.

Sir Robert Menzies' parents moved to Jeparit in the early 1890s and he was born in their home in 1894, going on to become Australia's longest serving Prime Minister.

Menzies Square is a public space on the site of their family home and shop.

The redevelopment has seen the Square extend onto the site of the former Café and Newsagency, following a fire which tore through those buildings in May 2012.

As part of the works, a new gazebo, seating, and barbeque have been installed.

Landscaping works were also part of the project, with scaled-down shopfronts being a prominent feature, as seen above. The shopfronts were made by members of the Nhill Men's Shed and installed in June this year.

Representatives from the Menzies Foundation, Regional Development Victoria, and Federation University, who partnered Hindmarsh Shire Council in funding the redevelopment, will be present at the opening.

The opening is open to all members of the Hindmarsh community, and will be followed by refreshments at the Jeparit Memorial Hall.

The event will be held from 10am on Friday 16th December.
