A Total Fire Ban is in place tomorrow, Thursday, 9 February, in the Wimmera, Mallee, and Central fire weather districts with a hot and humid day forecast.
Fire Danger Ratings will be Severe in the Wimmera and Mallee, Very High in Central, North Central and Northern Country and West and South Gippsland and High in the South West, North East and East Gippsland.
Temperatures forecast across the state will be around 37-44 degrees.
CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said the spike in fire danger was due to strengthening northerly winds.
"Areas of concern are grasslands around the outer western suburbs of Melbourne and the bottom area of the Mornington Peninsula as well as the Mallee and Wimmera, which have been consistent focus areas," he said.
"The recent rain has taken the pressure off fire occurring in forests, but not the grasslands - fire can still be carried in grasslands."
Heat Health Alerts have been issued for tomorrow in Mallee, Wimmera, North Central, Northern Country and East Gippsland.
No fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12.01am on Thursday 9 February until 11.59pm.
