One point victory margins featured in two of the six games on grand final day of the Dimboola Basketball Association on Sunday, and three others were decided by five points or less, to bring to an end another successful season.

Individual honours were also presented, with Nicole Polycarpou topping off a great season by winning the Best and Fairest awards in both the College Girls and Senior Women's divisions, and the Senior Women's Most Valued Player award.

Under 12 Division 2

The action began at 11.00 am with the Under 12 Division 2 game between the Lakers and the Heat, and those present were treated with a close game which resulted in a narrow 3 point win to the Lakers.

After this game the two Bud Gazelle awards were presented to players in this division. These award are sponsored by Bud's wife Bev Gazelle to honour and recognise the contribution he made to the local basketball Association before passing away just over 20 years ago.

Along with holding numerous positions including president, umpire and coach, Bud also played many games before being awarded a Life Membership of the Dimboola Basketball Association in 1994.

Bev Gazelle to present these trophies to Evie Simpson and Reef Ward.

Under 12 Division 1

The next game was the Under 12 Division 1 final between the Storm and the Mystics, and once again a close game was witnessed, with the Mystics finishing with a 5 point winning margin.

The major awards in this division are known as the Phil King awards. These are sponsored by Julie-Ann King to honour and recognise the contribution her husband has made to the Basketball Association over many years by playing a major role in keeping the association going by taking on numerous positions including president, umpire and coach, along with playing many games before retiring a couple of years ago.

The recipients of these trophies this season wee Ava Clark and Connor O'Dwyer.

College Girls

The Girls College division game commenced at 1.30 between the Breakers and Mystics and for the third game in a row a very close game was played, with the winning margin only a single point, in the favour of the Mystics.

Nicole Polycarpou received the first of her trophies for the day when she was presented with College Girls Best and Fairest award for 2016/17.

College Boys

The second game to be decided by a single was played out by the leading College Boy's teams, with the Kings taking the title.

The Most Valued Player award in this division went to Will Griffiths and Tom O'Dwyer was named the Best and Fairest player for 2016-17.

Senior Women

The first of the senior division games, the Women's, commenced at 4.00 pm between the Young Guns and Dynamics, with the former team running away to record the biggest winning margin of the day.

In this division both the Most Valued Player and Best and Fairest awards went to Nicole Polycarpou.

Senior Men

Old Mates and Hungtime played off in the Senior Men's game, which was fitting of the title deciding match with Hungtime finishing two points ahead.

The Best and Fairest player in the Men's competition is presented with the Errol McDonald award which is sponsored by Jodi McDonald to honour her husband and recognises the contribution Errol made to the Basketball Association before passing away in March 2009.

Errol played a big role taking on numerous positions including president, secretary and treasurer, along with umpiring, coaching and he was a long-time player in the Men division.

The recipient for the 2016-17 season was David Elliott.

Association President Michelle Danisch thanked all those who had contributed to the successful season, especially the new major sponsor the Dimboola Community Bank, which was represented by Amanda Ingeme, and Intersport Horsham owners Shane and Kylie Brurer, who contributed the purchase of the new uniforms.

The role played by players, umpires, timekeepers, coaches and many others was also gratefully acknowledged.
