The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Victoria will be in Dimboola tomorrow, Thursday 27th April.

The Special Olympics is a worldwide movement that inspires people with an intellectual disability to reach their personal best through regular sport and competition. Special Olympics are about social inclusion, awareness, encouragement and the support of people with a disability.

Through positive interaction and engagement, the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) aims to break down some of the barriers and fears that the intellectually disabled may have about authority and police in particular. Positive interaction with police will strengthen community relationships and aim to prevent negative interaction with police further down the track.

Hindmarsh Shire Mayor Deb Nelson said that Dimboola is lucky to have been included in the relay.

"Dimboola have been very lucky to be included in the route for this year's Special Olympics torch run. We as a community can show our support by lining the main street and cheering on the Law Enforcement team and local Shire representatives in the run from the Dimboola Police Station to the library on Thursday 27 April at 9.00am.

"I would love to see as many community members support this special event and talk to each other about how we as a community can support, include and encourage people of all abilities in our shire".

Please be aware that traffic conditions will be affected from 8.30am to 9.30am by the Law Enforcement Team on the morning of Thursday 27 April to facilitate the torch run in a safe manner.
