Nominations open for Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards
Member for Lowan Emma Kealy is urging local people to consider nominating hard-working volunteers from their community for this year’s Victorian Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards.

“The Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards are an opportunity for us all to say thank you”, Ms Kealy said.

“The contributions made by volunteers to our rural and regional communities are invaluable”, she said.

The prestigious awards will recognise up to 60 volunteers of different ages and cultural backgrounds in the categories of Leadership, Impact, Service and Teamwork.

One of the category winners will then be announced as the overall Premier’s Volunteer of the Year and will receive the Dame Elizabeth Murdoch Award and a $10,000 Government donation to a charity of their choice.

Victoria’s volunteer sector is worth more than $23 billion to the state economy, a figure that is expected to increase to $42 billion by 2021.

The Victorian Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards ceremony will be held in December, to coincide with the International Day of the Volunteer.

Award nominations close on 14 August at 5pm.

In September 2017, it will be 100 years since the sons of Edwin and Polly were killed in the First World War, only 4 days apart.

To commemorate this event, on Sunday 24th of September 2017, a service will be held at the Dimboola Cemetery.
