Despite some inclement weather a large crowd turned out in Rainbow's main street yesterday evening to witness the scrutineering of the entries in the Rainbow Desert Enduro which launched three days of action that will make up the final round of the 2017 CAMS BFGoodrich Australian Off Road Championship, round 3 of the 2017 CAMS Hi-Tec Oils/M&R Distributors Victorian Off Road Racing Championship and Round 2 of the 2017 Mallee Shield Inter-Club Challenge.

This event is run by the Victorian Off Road Racing Association Inc. and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, with the support of the Hindmarsh Shire Council, and will rely on a dedicated organising committee and a large team of volunteers to make the event happen.

Federal Street and part of Railway Street were closed to public road traffic yesterday afternoon to allow the competitors to marshal their vehicles in preparation for scrutineering which was undertaken in the main street, after which the vehicles were lined up along the street and were available for the public to inspect up close before the racing today and tomorrow.

Above - Off road racing vehicles took over Rainbow's Federal Street on Friday evening for scrutineering in preparation for racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Today the action will be centred on the GrainCorp Race Centre on Rainbow Rises Road, two kilometres north of the town, where the Prologue event, Top Ten Shootout and Section 1 of the Enduro will start and finish.

From 10 am all competitors will tackle the Prologue Stage in which each team will compete against the clock over an 8 kilometre course to establish the running order for the main event.

The ten fastest in the Prologue Stage will qualify for the Top Ten Shootout which will be conducted between midday and 2 pm to establish fastest qualifier.

Following this Section 1 of the Rainbow Desert Enduro will commence with all cars setting off from the Start / Finish line in groups of two at set intervals, to navigate their way around the main course which is approximately 80 kilometres in length, with each team aiming to complete two laps.

Tomorrow morning Section 2 will commence at 9 am, with Australian Off Road Championship competitors completing five laps of the circuit and the Victorian Championship competitors completing three laps. The first team to complete the Rainbow Desert Enduro is expected to arrive back at the GrainCorp Race Centre by around 1 pm with the remaining competitors following over the next few hours.

Regardless of the rain and darkness, scrutineering continued in Federal Street on Friday evening
