The official opening of the Hindmarsh Shire Council's new multimillion-dollar Nhill Early Years Centre took place on Tuesday this week with a function attended by invited guests and members of the public.

The official opening allowed Council to thank the many stakeholders that have been involved in this project from the initial planning, lobbying and fundraising, through to the construction and completion of the new facility.

"Many, many people have been involved in this project since it was first identified several years ago," explained Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay, "and the end result is a magnificent tribute to the efforts and vision of those people".

Significant financial support was obtained from the Federal Government and Victorian Government in addition to Hindmarsh Shire Council's contribution. Funding was also raised via the Nhill Early Years Centre fundraising committee, with significant contributions from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the Freemasons, as well as businesses, community groups and individuals, ensuring that the children of Nhill are given the best possible start to their early education.

"The new Nhill Early Years Centre has consolidated Early Years Services for the people of Nhill and surrounds," continued Cr Ismay. "The centre is home to childcare, 3 and 4 year old kindergarten, playgroup and maternal child health services. It means that parents of young children are conveniently able to visit just the one centre to access each or all of these services."

Following the commemorative opening at 2.00 pm those present were treated with an afternoon tea and a tour of the new facility.
