A farmhouse west of Antwerp was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon despite the work of eight CFA crews and a number of private units.

The fire was reported just after 3.30 pm with the structure well alight when the first crews arrived, but efficient work prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings or farmland.

With the prevailing severe fire danger and declared Total Fire Ban crews remained on site until 7.30 pm.

CFA crews attending included two from Dimboola, Antwerp, Detpa, Cannum, Gerang, Jeparit and Tarranyurk, with a further three brigades alerted but were not required.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation when the Courier contacted the CFA yesterday afternoon.

This was one of a number of fires in the district this week, with most local CFA crews having attended more than one, with the Dimboola crew even attending the Antwerp house directly from another call out east of Dimboola.
