Both of Dimboola’s pennant bowls teams played at home at the weekend to kick off the new season.

Social bowls returned last week too, writes ‘Kitty Hawk Pete’.
Well it’s been a fast start to the bowls season, going from no bowls to social bowls being permitted and then to pennant bowls being allowed. The first round was played at the weekend with both first and second division playing at home.

First division played against last year’s grand final runner up Sunnyside, it was a close game for most of the day with the result not being decided until the last end, unfortunately Sunnyside were able to stay in front and win by only two shots.

Dimboola had two rinks up with the side of Wayne Albrecht, Josh Cook, Rob Clark and Merv Roberts winning by 4 shots 25-21.

Peter O’Loughlin, Daniel Danisch, Cliff Unger, and Geoff Gazelle had a narrow win by 2 shots 21-19 and the team of Rob Pyers, Greg Cook, Judith Albrecht and Shannon Williams went down by 8 shots 15-23 with the final result being Dimboola 61 and Sunnyside 63.

Dimboola picked up 4 points for winning two rinks which can be important towards the end of the season. This week we travel to Kaniva so let’s hope we can pick up maximum points. Cars leave at 12 noon.

Second division played Natimuk and Dimboola got away to a strong start and after 12 ends held a good lead, but after having a break Natimuk fought back strongly to end up recording a 9-shot victory 64-73.

The team of Darryl Both, John Moar, Max Pilmore and Ian Barry went down 22-27, Bryan Beattie.

Ric Danisch, Ian McRae and Bill Eldridge went down 23-24, and Darryl Argall, Ron Gaulke, Max Walker and Alex Orcsik went down 19-22. This week second division play Goroke at home.

The teams for this week are on the noticeboard.

All the best in bowling,
