The Blackheath-Dimboola Bulls celebrated their return to the B grade competition with a resounding win over Horsham Saints.
The Bull’s batted first on the CoughlanPark pitch after winning the toss, and when the first wicket fell for 19, of which Luke Hutchinson contributed 12, Brodie Cramer came to the wicket where he joined Harry Young in a 76 run partnership for the second wicket. Young was dismissed for 39, but Cramer continued and had made 86 when he was the last batsman dismissed in the innings when the team total was 191.
Elliot Braithwaite retired hurt on 36, and the Polack brothers, Sam (15*) and Daniel (10*) were the not out batsmen when the team completed their allotted 40 overs, having set the challenging total of 214 for the loss of four wickets.
The Bulls bowlers did not allow the Saints batsmen to get settled, with wickets falling on 0, 2, and 5, and with six of their top-order batsmen dismissed before they made 50. Some useful partnerships in the lower order did not overcome the tight bowling, and with the Saints only surviving 29 of their 40 overs, they finished with 89 runs, still 125 runs behind.
Robbie Somers was the standout bowler with four wickets for just four runs off 5.2 overs, and Brent Tough took 2 for 7 off 4 overs. Sam Polack, Harry Young, Archie Watt, and player of the match, Brodie Cramer took one each.
This is an excellent start for a team that struggled for success last season, and they will aim to continue when they host a Jung Tigers team that is yet to play a game this season after a bye in round one, at The Park next Saturday.
