Wendy Bywaters has been announced as the successful candidate in the Hindmarsh Shire Council East Ward by-election.

The Victorian Electoral Commission announced the results on Friday afternoon.

Ms Bywaters received a little over half of the first preference vote with 656 votes, followed by Chris Johnson on 358 and Costa Di Biase with 234.

Ms Bywaters said that she is excited to be representing the constituents of the East Ward.

“l’m truly humbled, grateful and determined to be the best councillor I can be.

“This is only the beginning of a massive and challenging journey. I am excited to listen to and represent the people of East Ward and I look forward to working with all Councillors to make Hindmarsh Shire a better place for our children and grandchildren.”

Ms Bywaters joins returning councillor Debra Nelson for the East Ward, along with councillors Ron Ismay and Brett Ireland for the North Ward and Rob Gersch and Melanie Albrecht for the West Ward.
