The Hindmarsh Shire Council’s new Youth Council was announced at an event last Friday.

The Youth Council is made up of six returning members and seven new members from across the Shire who gathered at the Dimboola Library on Friday evening for a certificate presentation, which was followed by a leadership and team-building retreat over the weekend.

The retreat, which was led by Bonnie from Youth Leadership Academy Australia, got underway after the certificate presentation.

Every Youth Councillor who attended the retreat made a great effort to ensure that they were able to learn from, participate in, and benefit from each activity. A lot of the Youth Councillors gained confidence and personality in just two short days, and it will be exciting to watch how much more these young people grow and transform into the young leaders they have chosen to be.

A popular and engaging activity was Saturday night’s presentation by Dr Toby Potter on the night sky. Using a powerful telescope called Celeste, the Council members were able to view stars, planets, the moon, galaxies, and nebulae.

The youth councillors made great use of the Wimmera River by swimming whenever they had the chance to enjoy the sunny weather over the weekend.
On behalf of Council, I would like to wish the 2024 Youth Council well, and hope that they thoroughly enjoy their time and make great memories.
