The B and C grade teams took on Colts and Homers respectively on Saturday, and despite neither earning any points there were a couple of promising individual performances.

B Grade

The Blackheath-Dimboola B grade team ventured to Horsham on Saturday to take on Colts, who were fresh off a good win over the West Wimmera Warriors last weekend, and batting first and finished with 152 for the loss of 9 wickets at the end of their 40 overs.

The top individual score was 39 by Dwayne McDonald batting at number four, with Daniel Polack contributing 21 in the lower order, and Nathan Schorback and Mark McGough made 18 each.

Robert Sommers and Sam Polack gave a solid start with the ball, dismissing both Colts’ opening batsmen with only two runs on the board, and another wicket each before the total reached 30 had Blackheath-Dimboola in a strong position.

A strong partnership of 76 for the fifth wicket, and an unbeaten 52 for the sixth wicket saw the Colts pass the required target with ten overs to spare.

Sommers and Polack finished with two wickets each Chris Hauselberger took one.

Next week Blackheath-Dimboola will travel to Jeparit take on the new West Wimmera Warriors team, with both teams still searching for their first win for the season, so a very competitive game is anticipated.

C Grade

The C grade players took to the field for the first time this season when they came up against Homers on the Holy Trinity College oval in Horsham.

Upon winning the toss, Blackheath-Dimboola chose to have first use of the wicket, and started comfortably with 41 on the board when the second wicket fell, but the loss of three wickets on this total and another 13 runs later saw the team reduced to 5 for 54.

A contribution of 38 by Darren Saxton ushered the team score to just under the century when another flurry of wickets fell taking the score to 9 for 108.

A last wicket partnership of 72 between Greg O’Connor (55) and Brian Nicholson (14) saw the team post a very respectable 180.

A strong batting performance saw both the Homers’ openers retire when they reached a half century, and the first wicket was not taken until their score had reached 155, and only two were to fall by the time the target was reached.

Next Saturday the team ventures back to Horsham to take on Colts at Dudley Cornell Park.
