Round three of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association commenced on Friday night with Antwerp taking on Dimboola and Rainbow hosting Arkona.
Antwerp put on a dominant display and for the second week in a row did not drop a set. Dimboola’s Jake Miller and James McRae were the closest to winning a set, but went down to Daniel Greig and Sam Polack 9-6.
The Antwerp ladies, proved to be too strong and only gave Dimboola nine games across the six sets in the ladies section.
Antwerp won five match points by claiming all 18 sets and 162 games to Dimboola’s 45 games.
Arkona travelled to Rainbow for a Friday night match. The mixed section started with Arkona winning the first two sets. Husband and wife pair, Mark and Rebecca Bastin claimed Rainbow’s first set for the night. Arkona won the next two with Rainbow winning the last. Arkona won four sets, 46 games to Rainbow’s two sets, 42 games.
Arkona’s men won five of the six sets in their section, and only lost the one set in a tie-breaker.
The ladies section saw Arkona win four of the six sets, but even though Arkona won more sets, Rainbow won three more games.
For the evening, five tie-breakers were played with Arkona winning four of them.
Three set winners from Arkona were Mitchell Jorgensen, Russell Hunter, Trevor McBain, Laura Herben and Rachael Pellegrino.
On Saturday, Jeparit hosted Hopetoun. Hopetoun proved their strength again by claiming all mixed and Men’s sets for the day.
Jeparit’s ladies, Lou Cross and Mel Butler could not quite claim a victory against Jonti George and Shiarne Petschel, losing in a tie-breaker. But the final set of the day saw Yolande Hutson and Butler win Jeparit’s one and only set against Nicole McLean and Petschel.
Warrack Gold welcomed Brim to their courts on Saturday.
The Warracknabeal side started the mixed section strongly winning four sets to two.
Brim’s men then proved to be too strong for Warrack Gold and won five sets and claimed the match point.
Warrack Gold’s ladies then reversed that result and they won five sets to Brim’s one.
At the end of the day, Warrack Gold claimed four match points, 10 sets and 124 games to Brim’s 1 match point, 8 sets and 112 games.
Three set winners for Warrack Gold were Lauren Kellett, Rikki Nitschke and Jan Greenwood and Brim’s Lachie Stewart and Darren Marshman.
