Cricket | Blackheath-Dimboola B and C grades took on Jung Tigers
Both the B and C grade Blackheath-Dimboola teams took on their counterparts from the Jung Tigers club, and both registered goods wins.

B Grade

The B grade bulls have consolidated their winning form from the previous week with a very comfortable 91 run win over Jung Tigers on the Dimboola Road oval in Horsham.

Taking the opportunity to bat first, Harvey Young and Sam Polack both scored 36 each batting at number one and three respectively and shared a 82 run partnership for the second wicket.

Solid contributions by Michael McGough (27), Dwayne McDonald (18) and Chris Hauselberger (13) in the middle order, allowed Blackheath-Dimboola to post 163 for the loss of just eight wickets in their allotted overs.

Wickets fell regularly right from the start of Jung Tigers’ reply, with Robert Sommers dismissing the top three batsmen by the time the team total had reached 17 and then McDonald chipped in with two wickets to have the reply faltering at five for 21.

Two double figure partnerships steadied the innings but the Bull’s bowlers did not reduce the pressure and some miserly bowling ensured that the Tigers finished well short of the target.

Somers finished with 3 for 15 off eight overs, McDonald took 2 for 19 off eight and Sam Polack took 2 for 18.

The Bull’s next engagement in the B grade will be at home against Lubeck-Murtoa next Saturday in day one of their first two day fixture for the season.

C Grade

Blackheath-Dimboola hosted Jung Tigers in the C grade and registered their first win for the season in fine style.

Forty nine by opener Peter Frecker, 42 by James Barry at first drop followed by 24 to Darren Sexton and 20 to Greg O’Connor set up the impressive total of 193 for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of their 40 overs.

A confident innings by Jordy Laverty in the lower order saw him remain undefeated on 14.

Only one of the Tigers’ batsmen made it into double figures as the Bull’s bowlers bowled tightly and although they did have 43 runs on the board when the fourth wicket fell, the remaining six only earned them another 12 runs to be all dismissed for 57.

Michael Polycarpou took 3 wickets for 5 runs and Sexton took 3 for 8 to be the pick of the bowlers, but James Barry with 2 wickets for no runs off 3 overs and Laverty with two for six also made worthy contributions.

Next week the C grade team has the trip east to Minyip to take on the undefeated Rupanyup-Minyip in a real test of where they currently stand within this competition.
