Dimboola and District Tennis Association’s battle for a place in the top four remains a tight battle with Brim jumping into the top four after round seven action on Saturday.

In a see-sawing battle with Arkona, Brim leap-frogged its rival after claiming all five match points in its clash with Dimboola, while Arkona went down to second-placed Hopetoun.

Warrack Gold maintained a one point margin in top place when they defeated Antwerp in a tight battle at Anzac Park, while Rainbow continued its resurgence when they claimed a clean sweep of points against Jeparit.

Brim closed to within point of third place when they won all sections against Dimboola with some closely fought matches being played with the mixed doubles section kicking off a close contest.

Brim won the section three sets, 46 to three sets, 39 games before Brim dominated the mens section winning five sets to one and proving the difference on the day.

The ladies section was also a close contest with Brim winning the section three sets, 44 games to three sets, 39 games.

Warrack Gold and Antwerp played with four men and five ladies which saw the closest match of the round as Gold claimed four match points to one.

The mixed doubles set the tone for the day as Antwerp led 26 games to 23 after the first four sets before Gold’s extra ladies combination of Rikki Nitschke and Jan Greenwood claimed a 9-5 win to give Gold the opening point, 32 games to 31.

From there, Antwerp dominated the Men’s section winning three of the four sets, while Gold claimed a clean sweep of sets in the ladies to finish the day 102 games to 91.

Arkona lost its place in the top four when Hopetoun proved too strong, claiming all five points on the day.

Playing five men and five ladies, Hopetoun won the mixed section three sets 42 games to two sets, 26 games before Hopetoun claimed both the Men’s and ladies section.

The Hopetoun ladies won all sets to dominate the section, while the Hopetoun men won three sets to two to finish clear winners.

The final match of the round saw Rainbow claim all five points when they dominated a clash against Jeparit.

Playing four men and five ladies, Rainbow dominated from the outset winning four of the five mixed doubles sets before dropping just one set in the ladies section.

The Men’s section was a close affair which saw Rainbow claim the section two sets 29 games to two sets, 24 games, coming from behind after Rainbow’s Matt Thomas and Paddy O’Halloran claimed a 9-2 victory in the final Men’s set.
