The Blackheath-Dimboola B grade team recommenced their season in the best possible way on Saturday with a solid victory in their Twenty20 clash with Quantong at the Recreation Reserve.
This victory has allowed them to consolidate second place on the ladder and well within reach of catching up with the current leaders, Colts, over the remaining five rounds.
After being invited to bat by the visiting captain, the Bulls went about registering a challenging total, with all five batsmen who made it to the crease making it into double figures, and all contributing to significant partnerships.
The opening pair put on 41 for the first wicket, and when Trent McGough was dismissed for 20, Harry Young continued with Brodie Cramer (19) to put on another 60 runs for the second wicket.
Young was the next to be dismissed, but not before he had put on a game high of 55 runs.
Elliott Braithwaite finished not out on 42 and Dwayne McDonald was undefeated on 19 at the end of the innings.
Having set Quantong the score of 172 to pass to take the points, it was then the turn of the Bull’s bowlers to influence the game.
Wicket were taken regularly throughout the innings, with the home team not allowing any Quantong batting combination to settle. Their biggest partnership was only 36.
Young dominated the bowling figures with three wickets for just eight runs off three overs, whilst the remaining six wickets were shared amongst as many bowlers.
After their allotted 20 overs, Quantong had only made 119 runs for the loss of nine wickets, giving the Bulls a comfortable victory by 53 runs.
Next week the B grade will move back into one-day mode when they travel to Noradjuha to take on the Bullants in another opportunity to gain an advantage over another team in the top four.
The C grade with turn out for the first time in 2019 when the travel to the Horsham College oval to take on the last placed Jung Tigers where a win could see them break back into the top four.
