The Blackheath-Dimboola C grade team has returned to the top four with a comfortable win in round ten of the Horsham District Cricket Association, whilst the B grade team encountered a minor hiccup in their quest to consolidate a place in the finals.

B Grade

The B grade Bulls remain firmly entrenched in the top four, despite falling short against the Bullants at Noradjuha on Saturday.

A tight bowling display restricted the Bullants a total of 133 for the loss of nine wickets, with Chris Hauselberger returning the best figures of three wickets whilst conceding just nine runs from his eight overs.

Both Dwayne McDonald and Elliott Braithwaite took two wickets each and Brodie Cramer and Robert Sommers took one each.

The feature of the innings was the presence of four members of the Polack family in the field, with John, who took two catches, Sam, Daniel and Emily making up a third of the team.

When Blackheath-Dimboola took to the crease the run-chase was not as comfortable as expected as wickets fell regularly during their brief innings which only yielded a total 55 runs. Hauselberger opened the innings and when he was the fourth batsman dismissed he hade made the innings high score of 19.

The next best were Charles Rees, who came in a number eleven and remained not out on seven at the end of the innings, and Daniel Polack who also made seven.

This gave a margin of 78 runs, and although it allowed the Bullants to leap-frog Blackheath-Dimboola into second place on the ladder, the battle for the important top two places in the finals will continue throughout the remaining four rounds.

The seventh placed Jung Tigers will be the Bulls’ next opponent when they meet on the Dimboola Recreation Reserve next Saturday which presents another opportunity for the locals to firm up a place towards the top of the ladder.

C Grade

The Blackheath-Dimboola team has sent out a warning to the rest of the C grade competition that they are not yet a spent force with a narrow, but significant victory in a T20 encounter with Jung Tigers.

The Tigers’ captain chose to bat first and just under twenty overs later his team had made 107, with a three over spell by Nathan Schorback which yielded five wickets for six runs the defining point of the innings.

Two wickets to Michael Henderson and one each to Darren Sexton and Brent Tough and one run out made up the remaining five wickets.

Although the run-chase extended into the last available over, the Bulls only needed five batsmen to score the required runs.

Brent Tough was unbeaten on 26 , Philip Merrett remained not out on 25 and Michael Henderson made 23 to be the most significant contributors to the team total of 113 for three at the end of the twentieth over.

Next week this competition returns to the longer one-day format and Blackheath-Dimboola will host Rupanyup-Minyip
