The C grade Blackheath-Dimboola cricket team enjoyed a week off with the bye, but the B grade team provided plenty of action as they set about the second day of their round 11 clash with the Jung Tigers.

B Grade

Having set the challenging total of 172 and had the Tigers one wicket down for just 8 runs by the end of play on the first day, both teams returned to the Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday in search of the points.

Three early wickets to Robert Sommers put the pressure on the Tigers who slumped to 6 for 24, with Brodie Cramer also taking two middle order wickets.

The next two partnerships added 25 and 43 runs respectively to the Tigers total but two more wickets to Cramer reduced them to 9 for 99, still well short of victory.

It only took Ben Lawson two balls to clean up the last wicket for no further runs which denied the Tigers a team century.

This 73 run victory keeps the Bulls comfortably in third place on the ladder, well within range of putting pressure on the two teams above them.

Next week a trip to Quantong will see the Blackheath-Dimboola team take on the fourth placed home team in the first day of a two day game.

With games against two teams outside the top four in the next two rounds will allow the Bulls to position themselves for a crack at top spot on the ladder when they take on the current number one team, Colts, in the last round before the finals.

C grade

After having a bye this week, the C grade team will return to the field when they host Laharum next Saturday.

A victory in this game will see them rise above that opponent into third place on the ladder, and with games against the three bottom teams, and another bye over the following four weeks, they are in a prime position to firmly establish them in the top four before the finals.
