If you’re in the north-west of the Wimmera tomorrow (Thursday) you may see or smell smoke from a planned burn in the Big Desert.

Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) has said that residents of the Yanac and Murrayville districts and surrounds are most likely to see smoke from the burn, which is taking place in the Big Desert Wilderness Area, approximately 20 kilometres south-southwest of Murrayville.

Weather permitting, FFMVic crews will ignite part of a 1273 hectare fuel reduction burn tomorrow and will continue burning into the weekend if conditions remain suitable.

The burn aims to create a strategic break to reduce the spread and intensity of any future bushfires in the area, making it more likely that firefighters can contain them before they impact people, property and the environment.
