Melbourne aviation enthusiasts will have the opportunity to fly into the Nhill Air show on 2 November on board a vintage DC-3 aircraft.

A crowd favourite in 2015, the DC-3 will be taking off from Essendon Airport and will make a grand entrance at the air show with visitors staying overnight and returning home Sunday. Return flights will cost $550 per person return to Essendon. Price includes entry to air show.

Revolutionizing air transport in the 1930s and 1940s, the DC-3 is the world’s most successful commercial aircraft with 10,928 examples being built. The DC-3 landed in Nhill on passenger flights between Melbourne and Adelaide during the 1940s, 1950s and 60s. The current ‘flight office’ beside the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre was used as the booking office and flight terminal for the Victorian Air Coach Services, operated by Ansett ANA during the 1960s.

Mr Lynch said, “The DC-3 is such an impressive aircraft and to fly in to the Air Show on such a machine is a very special experience. There are only 28 seats available on the DC-3, so people must book as soon as possible to avoid missing out”.

Tickets are now available for purchase through the air show website. The DC-3 will also be available for a joy flight on Sunday morning for those who would like to experience the passenger service experience of yester-year. The joy flight costs $130 per person for a 30 minute flight around the skies of Nhill.
