The House of Representatives election in the Division of Mallee has been finalised, the Australian Electoral Commission announced yesterday.

The Nationals candidate, Anne Webster, has been elected after a record field of thirteen candidates contested Mallee in the Federal election that was held on May 18, 2019.

The Australian Labor Party candidate, Carole Hart, finished second in the two-candidate preferred count.

In the first preference count, Webster finished with 26,142 votes, Serge Petrovich representing the Liberal Party polled 17,665 and Hart received 14,722 votes.

The leading independent candidates were Jason Modica, who scored 8,795 votes, and Ray Kingston close behind with 8,621.

Just under twelve thousand out of a total of 105,619 votes cast for Mallee were informal.

An official event to finalise the result will take place this morning at the Mallee Count Centre in Mildura.
