The West Wimmera Warriors continued their positive start to the Horsham Cricket Association season, with both the B and C grade teams registering comfortable wins on Saturday, but unfortunately both Blackheath-Dimboola senior teams were forced to forfeit their games due to a clash with the Dimboola Show.
West Wimmera Warriors - B Grade
Mitch Dahlenburg dominated play on Davis Park in Nhill with a personal score of 116, and he partnered with Dylan Webb (63 not out) for a second wicket partnership of 187 to lead the B Grade Warriors to 2 for 214 at the end of their allotted 40 overs.
Ben Pollock finished on 11 not out and Dahlenburg’s opening partner, Luke Smith (4) were the only other Warriors to bat.
Quantong lost wickets regularly throughout their innings which lasted only twenty two overs, but once they had slumped to 3 for 14 they were always going to struggle to reach their target. When their last wicket fell with just 52 runs on the board, they were still 162 behind.
The leading bowler was Luke Smith who finished with 5 wickets for a miserly 14 runs off five and a half overs, and the rest were shared between Tim Braendler and Jordan Gurry with two each, and Josh Lees.
Next Saturday the team will travel to Murtoa for their first away games of the season, where they will take on the Lubeck-Murtoa, the only other undefeated team having played two games.
West Wimmera Warriors C Grade
For their first game for the season the C Grade team travelled to the Holy Trinity College oval in Horsham to take on Homers and finished with a good win in a T20 encounter.
Electing to bat first upon winning the toss, the Warriors started strongly with an opening partnership of 41 between Jamie Harding (27) and Darcy Bullen (11), but after the team found itself at 5 for 53 Ash Dickinson (37 not out), Ruby James (3) and Jordan Leach (16 not out) took the total to 116 for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of their twenty overs.
Defending a total of just under six runs per over, the Warriors applied the pressure right from the start with the tight bowling by the opening and first change bowlers well supported by some enthusiastic fielding which kept Homers’ scoring rate well below what was required.
The Homers survived their twenty overs but had only scored 74 for the loss of eight wickets which gave the Warriors’ a 41 run win to start their season.
Three late innings wickets saw Steve Leach finish with the best bowling figures, and Ruby James, Shane Gusman, Ash Dickinson and Dan Cross all took one each.
The C Grade Warriors will host Jung Tigers at Davis Park next Saturday in another T20 game.
Blackheath-Dimboola – Next Week
The A grade Blackheath-Dimboola team will play Rupanyup-Minyip at Rupanyup in a one-day game, and the C grade Bulls will travel to Laharum to take on the home team in a T20 game.
