The West Wimmera Warriors B grade team remain undefeated after overcoming Homers in a two-day game that concluded on Saturday at Nhill, and the C grade team enjoyed a win over Horsham Saints in a Twenty20 game at Jeparit.

A Grade

Having set a total of 238 last week, the Warriors took wickets regularly throughout Homer’s innings and never allowed their batsmen to get settled at the crease, with no partnerships making more than 17 runs.

All five of the Warriors’ bowlers used shared the wickets, with Jordan Gurry and Liam Preston both taking 2 for 7 and Tim Braendler taking 2 for 8. Nathan Alexander and Josh Lees took one each. Along with one runout and a batsman retiring hurt, this concluded their innings for 66 which gave a first innings result of 172 runs in favour of the Warriors.

Next Saturday the Warriors will take on Jung Tigers on Davis Park in a one-day game

C Grade

A career high score of 34 by Jack Crowhurst and 26 by James Philip highlighted the C grade Warriors’ innings on Saturday in their latest Twenty20 match.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Warriors’ posted a total of 130 for the loss of 6 wickets from their 20 overs, with Ritchie Dodds the other batsman to make double figures with 12.

The Horsham Saints’ innings started badly when Ruby James (above) took the first wicket for just 4, but a second wicket partnership of 27 kept them in the game.

A run out, another wicket by Ruby James and one to Bailey Zimmermann reduced Saints to 4 for 34 and although they did string together a couple of bigger partnerships later in the innings, time ran out and they only had 80 on the board at the end of their twentieth over.
Ruby James was the best of the bowlers with 2 for 13, with Shane Gusman also taking two wickets for 17 runs. Zimmermann and Xavier Bone took one each.

This win has the Warriors in second place on the Twenty20 ladder, equal on points with both the top placed Colts and third placed Laharum.

With two rounds of Twenty20 games left, one of which is a bye for the Warriors, their game against Colts at Jeparit just before Christmas could determine if they make the final.

Before then there will be two more one day games, with the Warriors next to play Homers at Jeparit next Saturday.
