Semi-final weekend of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association saw the first semi-final played between third placed Hopetoun and fourth placed Arkona at Hopetoun on Saturday.

Hopetoun’s finals experienced showed right from the start, with no signs of nerves they made light work of Arkona, winning all six sets and winning 54 games to 16.

Arkona’s men were always going to have an uphill battle against Hopetoun’s men, and unfortunately, they were no match and couldn’t level the score. Hopetoun again winning all six sets, 54 games to 18.

Arkona got off to a great start in the women’s section with Meaghan Pohlner and Tracey Jorgenson getting their first win for the day in a close tie break. Although there were some close games played, this was the only set Arkona managed to win for the day. Hopetoun easy winners for the day ending Arkona’s season.

Hopetoun 5 match points, 17 sets, 161 games defeated Arkona 0 match points, 1 set, 61 games.

The second semi-final was played between minor premiers Antwerp and second placed Warrack Gold at the Health and Fitness Centre courts in Dimboola, also on Saturday.

It was anticipated that the match could be won in the mixed section, and Antwerp showed their intentions early coming off the court with two sets going their way 9-0. It was a struggle for Warrack Gold to come back from this, but Cam Clyne and Emma Koschitzke managed to win one set for the section with some great tennis 9-7.

Antwerp 5 sets, 52 games – Warrack Gold 1 set, 25 games

It was always going to be a battle for Warrack Gold’s men to stop the in-form men of Antwerp and they showed their depth again in this section.

Chris Avery was inspirational for his side, not dropping a game in the men’s section. He lead his side to another one-sided affair, Antwerp 6 sets, 54 games to 0 sets, 15 games.

The women’s section was the turnaround for the day for Warrack Gold. There was some very long rallies and quality tennis played by both sides, but it was Warrack Gold who come home with the match point.

Mother-daughter duo of Heather Jorgenson and Samantha Baker getting the only set for Antwerp 9-4.

Warrack Gold 5 sets, 49 games to 1 set, 29 games.

Antwerp 4 match points, 12 sets, 135 games defeated Warrack Gold 1 match point, 6 sets, 89 games

The results of the semi-finals mean Warrack Gold will face off in a rematch of the 2018/19 grand final against Hopetoun in the Preliminary Final on Saturday, March 14, as the Association will have a bye for the long weekend this weekend.
