This letter has been contributed by Wendy Bywaters, one of the three candidates for the upcoming Hindmarsh Shire Council East Ward By-Election.
I am proud to be a resident of Hindmarsh where I have lived, worked, and raised my family. I am passionate about our region and if elected I will focus my energy on the East Ward to ensure your needs are heard.

I know I can make a difference as I have in the past and having spent my whole life in the Hindmarsh community, I understand the historical challenges and frustrations facing residents today.

I am wanting to listen to everyone, those that have lived in Dimboola for their lifetime and those that have seen a glimpse of magic in this community and made it their home.

I am committed to seeing our farming district thrive; a community where all residents are heard and valued, where we have well-maintained roads, amenities, infrastructure and with services of a high standard.

I am dedicated to an inclusive community, caring for seniors and families, while providing opportunities for our youth. I formally recognise traditional owners the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagik Nations. I have pledged to support the LGBTIQA+ Priorities ‘Rainbow Tick’ for council-run services. For ten years, I have been a mentor and support for the shire’s refugee community and will continue to advocate for migrant groups in Hindmarsh. I believe this is also a tremendous growth opportunity for Dimboola.

As a graduate of the Wimmera Development Association, Business Leaders Program, and having experience running a successful farm machinery business, Airbnb, as well as renovating homes for resale, I have a thorough understanding of business. With my knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm, I have a vision to nurture local innovation and develop social and economic growth for Hindmarsh.

Volunteering is vital, and I have been involved in the Mates Mentoring, L2P Learner Driver Program, President of the Local Learning and Employment Network, and I have fought for literacy resources and services to improve local early learning outcomes.

Serving as a Councillor 2012-2016, including two years as Deputy Mayor, has given me a detailed understanding of local government.

I believe that together, we can overcome challenges and create new opportunities, develop local ideas and possibilities while retaining Dimboola’s integrity and our rural lifestyle.

If elected, I promise everyone from the young to the elderly will be considered when using my influence and exercising my all-important vote.

Trust me to be elevate your voice to ensure you are heard.

Feel free to get in touch to discuss issues that are important to you this election. I want to hear from you.
