Nhill Golf Club will host the Cancer Council Longest Day of Golf 2020.

The Longest Day is an endurance golf marathon setting a challenge to successfully complete a chosen number of holes from dawn to dusk and raise funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services. Participants can choose to register and play 36, 54 or 72 holes.

Four Nhill Golf members have registered to conquer the 72-hole challenge. Kim Croot, Shane Grover, Libby Lacey and Trevor Polkinghorne will test their skill, strength and stamina on Sunday 13th December 2020. Each are participating for different reasons but all have an overall aim to help raise funds for cancer research.

“I have wanted to participate for a number of years and thought I would give it a go this year. I am playing in honour of past members, and to show support to their family and friends”, Shane said.

The team will tee off early on December 13th, with the start time to be finalised closer to the day. Friends and family are invited and encouraged to come along and cheer them on. Supporters are in the process of planning additional fundraising activities to be held on the day at the Nhill Golf Club too, so watch this space.

All funds raised will be donated to the Cancer Council which is internationally renowned for innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. Its mission is to prevent cancer, empower patients through providing information and support, and save lives. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, the Cancer Council relies on the generosity of supporters to continue its important work. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and two in three Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70.

Kim, Shane, Libby and Trevor will play Stableford in each of the four rounds. Everyone is welcome to come along and show support. The course will be open for other players not participating in the fundraising event but the Club ask that the four participating members be given right of play to allow them to get through their four rounds in the allotted time.

Playing 72 holes in a single day is no mean feat.

Kim Croot said “I am participating to recognise the 30th year anniversary of Dad passing and he played golf for years.”

The day will be made memorable playing together, supported by family and friends and helping those impacted by cancer.
