Round seven of the Dimboola District Tennis Association season was highlighted by a big game between Rainbow and Hopetoun, and Brim playing bottom side Jeparit, looking to sneak back into the four.
Conditions for Saturday’s games were warm and windy, including a total fire ban.
The top four is currently fairly settled, but Brim and dark horse team Dimboola are fighting to keep in touch as the season progresses to the harvest break, which is only three weeks away.
The first game of the round was between Antwerp and Arkona at Dimboola. Harvest is starting to take some players away during the weekends now, so wins are vital at this stage to ensure finishing in the top two spots.
In the Mixed, Arkona came up trumps, winning 3 sets, 34 games to 2 sets, 33 games.
The Men’s was fairly one-sided and a good win to Arkona with 4 sets 42 games to Antwerp 2 sets and 42 games. However, the Women had a good tussle on the night with only 9 games separating to two teams with Antwerp winning 2 sets 33 games to Arkona 2 sets 24 games.
The overall score was Arkona with 3 match points 100 games to Antwerp 2 match points 6 sets 108 games.
Match two on Friday night saw fourth-placed Rainbow and top team Hopetoun up against each other at Rainbow, and the game didn’t disappoint with some close tussles on the night.
In the Mixed, Hopetoun came out on top, but by only 3 games, winning 2 sets 24 games to 2 sets 21 games.
The Men were dominated by Rainbow with a huge win, helping them to gain some points for the weekend, claiming a good win of 3 sets, 35 games to 1 set, 20 games.
In the Women, it was Hopetoun who was back on top of the game, having a good win with 3 sets, 33 games to 1 set, 19 games.
The overall score on the night saw Hopetoun secure a vital win with 3.5 match points, 6 sets, 77 games to Rainbow’s 1.5 match points, 6 sets, 75 games.
On Saturday, Dimboola travelled up the highway to take on second-side Warrack. They needed another win to keep their finals chances alive.
In the Mixed, Dimboola was off to a great start, claiming the points in a one-sided affair, winning with 4 sets, 41 games to 1 set, 24 games.
The Men were completely dominated by the visiting team, who had a huge win: 5 sets, 45 games to 0 sets, 24 games.
In the Women, however, it was almost the complete opposite, with Warrack coming out on top with a score of 4 sets, 40 games to 1 set, 28 games.
The overall score was Dimboola 4 match points, 10 sets, 114 games to Warrack 1 match point, 5 sets, 88 games.

The last game of the round saw Jeparit travel to take on 5th-placed Brim. The home team completely dominated the game, destroying any chance the Redbacks had of winning on the day.
In the Mixed, Brim won all of the sets, giving Jeparit no chance, a huge 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 7 games.
In the Men there was some resistance from the opposition, however another good win to the home team 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 12 games.
The Women followed a similar path to the men, with Brim finishing the day off with a commanding win: 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 29 games.
The overall score was Brim 5 match points, 12 sets, 118 games to Jeparit 0 match points, 0 sets, 29 games.
After the weekend’s results, the top three teams stay the same; however, Brim has jumped back into the four at the expense of Rainbow, and Dimboola has given itself every chance of playing finals with another good win.
