Some of Australia’s best barefoot water skiers will take to the Wimmera River at Dimboola this weekend for the Peter Taylor Memorial Waterski Tournament, Australia’s biggest barefoot night jump event.

The event is hosted by the Dimboola Boat and Water Ski Club and joint partners, the South Australian Barefoot Club and the Victorian Barefoot Water Ski Club.

The action commences at 7 am on Friday with skiing all day in slalom, tricks, and Jump disciplines for all the age groups competing, with the action taking place on the river adjacent to the recreation reserve.

At dusk, the floodlights will be turned on, illuminating around 600 metres of the river where the skiers will hit speeds over 70 kilometres per hour and, after hitting the ramp, will launch up to three metres into the air and travel airborne for distances of up to 28 metres.

Saturday is the main event day, with skiing commencing again at 7 am and continuing throughout the day, with the finale in the evening.

The culmination of two days of action will see the Dimboola Boat and Water Ski Club conducting a Charity Auction, with the proceeds going to WACK (Wimmera Against Cancer in Kids) and the Rural Outreach Program.

The spectacle of the Peter Tylor Memorial Night Jump will then take place under the floodlights before the event concludes with presentations and a spectacular fireworks display.

Spectators will be well catered for with catering on site on both days, and a licenced booth will operate on both days. There is strictly no BYO.

To accommodate the spectators, a section of the road through the recreation reserve between the river end of the Les Howland Oval and the basketball stadium will be closed to traffic from 2 pm on Friday through to 11 pm Saturday.
