Round six of Dimboola District Tennis Association saw some interesting match-ups, with the top four sides Brim and Antwerp going head to head, Rainbow on the edge of the four hosting top side Warrack, and the bottom two sides, Jeparit and Arkona, both looking for their first win of the season, up against each other in Jeparit.

The first game of the round was between Hopetoun and Dimboola, which was changed from the Saturday time slot and played at Hopetoun. Dimboola has been in good form of late and is looking to continue climbing up the ladder, while Hopetoun has positioned itself comfortably in the second spot on the table.

In the Mixed it was a very tight scoreline with both sides unable to break the shackles ending on 2 sets, 29 games apiece.

The Men saw a huge win to Dimboola, claiming all the sets, giving them the upper hand, winning with 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 24 games.

The Women, however, were a complete reversal of the men’s, but this time, Hopetoun got the points, winning 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 12 games.

The overall score was Hopetoun 3 match points, 6 sets, 89 games to Dimboola 2 match points, 6 sets, 77 games. This was a very close game to kick off the round.

The first Saturday game was between Jeparit and Arkona. In the Mixed, it was a close tussle, with both winning two sets. However, Arkona came home with 30 games to 22.

In the Men’s match, it was another close affair, with Jeparit coming out on top to secure the points: 2 sets, 23 games to 2 sets, 21 games.

In the Women’s event, Arkona came out on top, claiming 3 sets, 33 games to 1 set, 27-game win, which went a long way toward earning them the points on the day.

The overall score was Arkona: 4 match points, 7 sets, 84 games to Jeparit 1 match point, 5 sets, 72 games.

The next game was a battle between third and fourth on the ladder.

In the Mixed, Antwerp was off to a flying start, not giving the Brim side any chance, taking the win 5 sets, 45 games to 0 sets, 26 games.

The Women’s match was a bit of the same, with Antwerp giving the Brim side no chance to get into the contest with another good win: 5 sets, 52 games to 1 set, 28 games.

The Brim Men came home with a wet sail and helped them claim a point on the day, winning with 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 12 games.

The overall tally had Antwerp on top, winning 4 match points, 10 sets, 109 games, to Brim 1 match point, 5 sets, 90 games.

The loss for Brim dropped them out of the top four by one point, but they have a superior percentage to fourth-place Rainbow.

The last game of the round saw Rainbow host the top side, Warrack, where they needed the win to re-enter the four.

In the Mixed, Rainbow came up trumps, giving them a good start to the day, winning with 3 sets, 34 games to 1 set, 19 games.

Rainbow also came home with the chocolates in the Men, claiming a good win and giving them a chance for maximum points to go in front 3 sets, 31 games to 1 set, 20 games.

In the Women, however, Warrack was pretty strong and had a good win which helped them to a point on the day. Warrack won with 3 sets, 35 games to 1 set, 26 games.

The overall score was Rainbow 4 match points, 7 sets, 91 games to Warrack 1 match point, 5 sets, 74 games. This result knocked Warrack from the top spot, which Hopetoun had taken, and it also allowed Rainbow to jump into fourth place at the expense of reigning premiers Brim.

With four rounds left before the harvest break, things are fairly tight at the top of the ladder, which is great to see.
